Notice of Possible Spoofing Emails from the City

Spoofing-Email-graphic

The City of Fredericksburg was recently subject to a spamming campaign that may have led to the exposure of emails sent to and from the City Finance Department. As a precautionary measure, we are alerting our residents and customers to be aware regarding emails you receive from the City.

A suspicious email may look like this image:

spoofed email

The “From” address is not actually from the city. Please be aware that it could be “spoofed” and contain a malicious attachment or clickable link. These “spoofed” emails should be deleted – DO NOT open the attachments or click on any links.

We take spoofing attempts on our residents and customers very seriously. If you receive a correspondence that you think may not be from the City of Fredericksburg, please report it to us by sending the email to report-spoofing@fredericksburgva.gov.

For additional information please call our IT Department at 540-372-1026 or email report-spoofing@fredericksburgva.gov.
