Fredericksburg Baseball Celebrates Groundbreaking

The City of Fredericksburg and Potomac Nationals announced at the June 26, 2018, Council meeting a partnership that is leading to the team relocating to a newly constructed 5,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Celebrate Virginia South. City Council unanimously approved a Letter of Intent at the July 10, 2018 meeting that triggered a 120 day study period in which the Club would plan the stadium, receive all approvals from Minor League Baseball and the Carolina League, secure financing, obtain legislation approvals from City Council regarding land use, and more.  The study period included a special-purpose City Council public meeting to hear input on the proposal, as well as drafting and negotiating a definitive agreement with the Club.

Council on Nov. 27, 2018 unanimously approved the final two elements of the various agreements needed to bring a 5,000-seat multi-purpose stadium to Celebrate Virginia South. Council approved a Trademark License Agreement that will facilitate the relocation of the Celebrate Virginia After Hours concert series to the stadium, as well as a Paid Admissions Agreement with Potomac Baseball LLC. Details of both can be found on item’s 11A and 11B of the November 27 agenda. These two votes followed the Nov. 13 unanimous approval of the Development and Shared Use Agreement with Potomac Baseball LLC. The owners of the Potomac Nationals are now working on planning and financing the stadium, which they plan to open in April 2020.
