The contractor for VRE’s rehabilitation project has been working on bridge repairs at the Fredericksburg Train Station. They have determined that the amount of work on the bridge structures is more than the initial scope. To maintain timely completion of the project, the VRE contractor presented a request to make adjustments on lane closures so that they may be able to work on two bridges at one time. This will involve closing one travel lane for each structure then switching to another side. The VRE contractor is completing the work for the southbound travel lane on Charles Street and will be moving to the northbound lane. They will also begin work on the Princess Anne bridge. The following summarizes the planned work and scheduled period for each phase:
Revised first phase: Work on the east side of Charles Street and the west side of the Princess Anne Street. Duration: Aug. 28th – Nov. 15th, 2023
Next phase: Work on the east side of the Princess Anne Street and the west side of Caroline Street. Duration: Nov. 16th – Dec. 8th, 2023
Next phase: Work on the east side of Caroline Street and the west side of Sophia Street, Duration: Dec. 11th, 2023 – Feb 3rd, 2024
Next phase: Work on the east side of Sophia Street, Duration: Feb 5th – Mar. 29th, 2024
Next phase: Work on the sidewalk area and wing walls on the east side of Charles Street following completion of work on Sophia Street
For each phase, traffic control will be in place to guide drivers and pedestrians through the work zones, which will include some detours to facilitate this work.
