12 noon update: Visitor Center is closing at noon.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA – January 17, 2022 at 10am: Our Public Works crews worked all night and are continuing their efforts today. Primary and secondary roads are mainly clear and salted. Today they will work on subdivisions and side streets. If you must travel today, use caution, keep speeds low and watch for areas of black ice. Avoid unnecessary travel. VDOT crews have also cleared the major roads in our region and are focusing on neighborhood and lower-volume streets to clear away snow and slush and make them passable. They will also be working to plow road shoulders back further, turn lanes and intersections, and clear drainage blockages that may be causing ponding water.
There will be periods of high wind forecasted to gust 40-50mph at times, throughout most of today. If you see a tree or a large limb that has come down, please call 540-684-9146. If that line is busy or there is no answer, please call 540-373-3122. If the tree has caused significant damage to a structure or has caused injury to someone, please call 911. This pertains to trees or limbs that may come down during the current winter storm and not for debris removal that resulted from the January 3 storm. City crews will continue storm debris cleanup from the January 3 storm, in the coming week, as the melting allows. Dominion Energy has mobilized crews in the area to begin restoring any outages, if they occur, as soon as they can. The City remains engaged in monitoring the weather and working with Dominion Energy to mitigate any power outages in an efficient manner.
During times of severe weather, our 911 center is often inundated with non-life threatening calls regarding utilities. Please keep the following numbers close by to contact your appropriate utility company if you have a need for them during the storm, as this will help ease the burden on our 911 Dispatchers to allow them to process emergency calls for the City:
- Columbia Gas: 800-544-5606
- Dominion Power: 866-366-4357
- Verizon Phone and FiOS: 800-837-4966
- Comcast Cable: 800-934-6489
- Cox Cable: 844-232-9646
Our Fire Department has opened a virtual Emergency Operations Center that will be maintained 24/7 by storm team staff until the storm and cleanup is complete.
City offices are closed today for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. FRED Transit is not operating. Refuse and recycling is being collected and the Visitor Center is open from 10am – 4 pm today. Visitor Center is now closing at noon.
