The City of Fredericksburg staff goes to great lengths to ensure American Disabilities Act compliance, even during a national crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic. Sidewalk café permits issued during the public health crisis were contingent on ADA compliance at each temporary location, and in several instances our Public Works department installed ADA compliant wheel chair ramps and temporary walkways to help these restaurants. At no time was ADA compliance a “negotiable factor” in allowing sidewalk cafes. At the City’s request, the Fredericksburg Zoning Administrator will be touring the sidewalk cafés next week with the Disability Resource Center to review accommodations.
