Mayor Greenlaw discusses the official start of the holiday shopping season this weekend and where to park in downtown Fredericksburg.
Windows will be decorated, holiday music will be on, and garland and holiday flags will be in place. The annual Window Wonderland contest will also kick off this weekend, so come downtown to see how many of the fun riddles you can solve.
When you come downtown you will have no trouble at all parking. This year we have marked a couple of dozen on-street parking spaces on William and Caroline streets for 15-minute parking to encourage curbside pickup and delivery. Look for the newly erected signs with the blue curbside pickup icons. Those looking to stay longer have an array of options – including two-hour spaces on-street, multiple surface lots off Sophia and William streets, and our Sophia Street garage – which is free for the first four hours.
This year we are so excited to have access to a second downtown garage – the one built by the Vakos Companies on Winchester Street. If you do go to this garage, take a few minutes to head to the top and take in the beautiful views over downtown Fredericksburg. It’s worth the trip.
Please continue to support our local small businesses this holiday season. They are truly the lifeblood of our community, and when you spend local the money stays here to provide jobs and tax revenue that lets us make Fredericksburg such a wonderful place to live, work and visit. Check out the holiday deals our businesses are offering at fxbglovelocal.com.
While you enjoy our downtown, please remember to wear a mask and practice social distancing. We all need to do our part to keep our community safe and healthy. That’s it for this week. Please keep your questions coming at email@example.com. We will be back soon. Until then, see you around the ‘Burg.
