The Fredericksburg Fire Department under the direction of the Virginia Department of Emergency Management currently operates a Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team. We are one of thirteen Level III teams throughout the State and provide service to all or part of eleven counties & cities. Our team consists of (21) contract members; fourteen are certified at the Technician level and seven are certified at the Specialist level.
We respond to a variety of chemical related incidents including those occurring at water / wastewater treatment facilities, incidents involving the transportation industry and incidents at industrial and fixed-facility locations. In addition, our team also maintains the capability to respond to and mitigate incidents involving terrorism and chemical, biological & radiological threats. All equipment is housed in (3) apparatus which are kept at Fire Station #2 located on Altoona Drive. Our apparatus includes a 40' tri-axle Wells Cargo trailer, a GMC Topkick box style truck and a GMC step-van which is setup and utilized as a Command vehicle.
