Victim/Witness Assistance Program
The Fredericksburg Victim-Witness Program is a grant-funded program to assist victims of and witnesses to crime and has operated out of the office since 1986.
Rappahannock Regional Drug Treatment Court
This is a drug treatment program, which accepts referrals of juveniles and adults from the courts of the City of Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania County, Stafford County, and King George County.
Domestic Violence Prosecution Program
In 2005, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and the Fredericksburg Police Department obtained grant funding to establish domestic violence units in their respective departments. The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office has one attorney assigned to prosecute domestic violence, a domestic violence victim advocate, and one grant-funded domestic violence paralegal.
Child Advocacy Center
The Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center opened in January, 2009. Safe Harbor will be at the disposal of area prosecutors, police and social services departments for interviews, examinations, and mental health referrals for children who are victims or witnesses of crime.
Forfeited Asset Sharing Program
Under Department of Criminal Justice Services regulations, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and the Fredericksburg Police Department have entered a sharing agreement to seize assets recovered in criminal cases through civil proceedings. In the past, these funds have been used to purchase computer equipment and for attorney training at seminars around the country conducted by the National District Attorneys Association.
