Volunteer Opportunities
Boards & Commissions
If you are interested in becoming more active in the government of your city, you might consider a position on a board or commission. Citizens are appointed by the Fredericksburg City Council to serve a limited number of two- to five-year terms.
Comprehensive Services Act Program
Parents who reside in the City of Fredericksburg are invited to make application to serve on a Family Assessment and Planning Team (FAPT) or the Community Policy and Management Team (CPMT). Volunteers selected to serve will work cooperatively with other members on the teams to assist at-risk children/youth and their families to access resources through the Comprehensive Services Act (CSA). Find more information in the Social Services Department section.
Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Company
The Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Company has been serving the citizens of our City since 1882 and is a community-based organization that works side by side with the career members of the Fredericksburg Fire Department. We are always looking for active Operational Members, the actual firefighter that will work in conjunction with the career staff in fire suppression and hazard mitigation, and operational Support Members; members who will assist us in recruitment efforts, public education and fire prevention education and administrative duties.
Fredericksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad (FRS)
As a member of FRS you will be encouraged to complete the appropriate training that will give you the knowledge and skills to be a better patient care provider. Whether it is as an EMT-Basic, EMT-Enhanced, EMT-Intermediate, EMT-Paramedic, or Emergency Vehicle Operator, you will be supported by the membership of FRS.
Parks & Recreation
Volunteers are an integral part of how the Parks and Recreation Department functions. We utilize volunteer help to defer costs of our programs, so that they may be offered to everyone for a reasonable fee. Volunteers help with coaching youth sports teams, volunteering at special events such as Picnic in the Park, Soap Box Derby, Children's Art Expo, Earth Day, and Fredericksburg First Night, and volunteering as instructors or aids for sports programs, leisure programs, and camps.
Social Services Volunteer Opportunity
We are seeking someone who would like to perform clerical duties on a part-time basis to assist our staff in providing the best customer service we can to the needy in our community. If you speak any other languages, we really need you in the Social Services Department.
