Absentee Voting

Absentee voting provides means for qualified voters to participate in upcoming elections when they may not be able to go to the polls on election day. Absentee voting begins at least 45 days before most elections and ends for in-person absentee voters on the Saturday before election.

Notice to voters using US mail service:

The USPS delivery standards changed early last year so that First Class delivery went from 1 to 3 days to 2 ot 5 days and is now 2 to 9 days. Please take this into consideration as you start thinking about absentee voting.

How do I obtain an absentee voting application?

1) You may apply for Absentee Ballot online.

2) You may also download and print the Absentee Ballot Application Form, the Annual Absentee Ballot application form, or the Federal Post Application Card Form, or you may request that the desired form be emailed to you. After downloading the application form:

  1. Print the form
  2. Read the instructions accompanying the form
  3. Fill out the requested information on the form carefully and legibly. 
  4. Sign the form
  5. Mail or fax the completed application to be received by the Voter Registrar by the Tuesday before election day to receive your ballot by mail

How do I vote in-person absentee in the City of Fredericksburg?

1) You must appear in the Office of the General Registrar within 45 days of an election. The last day to vote in-person absentee is the Saturday prior to an election.

Free 2-hour parking is available at the rear of the building in the City parking garage.

2) You must complete an absentee application.

3) You must present photo identification.

What do I need to know about the Absentee application?

1) Please complete the application completely and accurately, with legible handwriting. The General Registrar can not interpret, nor complete an incomplete application on your behalf.

2) Applications must be completed for each election or annually for those that qualify. It is the voters responsibility to complete and return applications by applicable deadlines to the General Registrar.
