Special Cleanup Events

Spring & Fall Community Cleanup Weeks

Spring and Fall Community Weeks (PDF) are great opportunities to clean up City yards and neighborhoods. During these weeks, the Public Works Department collects certain types of materials (e.g., appliances, brush, building materials, furniture, mattresses, scrap materials, tires) from special dumpsters located throughout the City. Community Cleanups are currently suspended due staff shortages, and associated budget redirection.

Earth Day is in April each year, but you can celebrate everyday by recycling! Visit the website of the Rappahannock Regional Solid Waste Management Board to find a recycling center near you.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days (PDF) are held each spring and fall. This special collection is open only to City and Stafford County residents. NOTE: The R-Board is currently working on securing a date for 2023. This webpage and R-Board.org website will be updated once the details are finalized.

The Public Works Department also holds summer and winter Curbside Bulk Collections (PDF) for items such as appliances, Christmas trees, and furniture. Some of these curbside collections are  suspended due staff shortages, and associated budget redirection.

Seasonal Leaf Collection

Seasonal Leaf Collection runs from November 1st through December 31st each year.
