Accessibility & Americans with Disabilities Act

In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FXBGO!) will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs or activities. 

Accessible Transportation

FXBGO! provides accessible transportation by providing deviated fixed route bus service. All vehicles are equipped with wheelchair lifts. Drivers will assist persons on and off the bus when needed and make bus stop announcements regularly to make riding easier. Drivers are trained in passenger assistance and wheelchair securement procedures to make your trip safe and enjoyable.

One Personal Care Attendant (PCA) may ride for free. A PCA is someone designated or employed specifically to help a disabled passenger meet his or her personal needs. A PCA typically assists with one or more daily life activities such as providing personal care, performing manual tasks, or providing assistance with mobility or communication.

Route Deviation Service

To serve those who may need a assistance accessing FXBGO!'s services, FXBGO! will make deviations (up to 3/4 of a mile) off its regular routes to provide curb-to-curb service to its customers where road conditions make it safe to do so.

To Schedule a Route Deviation

First-time users of FXBGO!'s route deviation service, will need to formally submit a request. It will a minimum of one week to process your request. During this time, FRED will evaluate your request to ensure that it falls within our guidelines and that our buses can safely provide the service.

A passenger must contact FXBGO! a minimum of 24 hours in advance to schedule route deviation service. At that time, the dispatcher will determine whether FXBGO! can provide the deviation with the current route schedule of the requested trip.

There are three available options for requesting a deviation.

  1. Call FXBGO! at 540.372.1222 and press "2" at the prompt to schedule the route deviation.
  2. Submit Online. Complete a new deviation request form online.
  3. Print and Fax. Complete and print the Deviation Request Form and fax it to (540) 370-1637.

Note: FXBGO! does not offer route deviation service on VRE Commuter Bus Service.

Reasonable Accommodation

As a recipient of Federal financial assistance, Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FXBGO!) agrees to provide reasonable accommodations by making changes to policies, practices, and procedures if needed by an individual with a disability to enable him or her to participate in the recipient’s program or activity, unless providing such accommodations are an undue financial and administrative burden or constitute a fundamental alteration of the program or activity.
