Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation Director’s Fund
Jane Shelhorse, City resident and former Director of Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation and Events, established the Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation Director’s Fund to benefit the city’s park and recreation opportunities. Specifically, it is designated to enhance, expand or preserve parks and recreation facilities, programs and outdoor spaces to increase accessibility, improve social equity and provide opportunities for healthier, more fulfilling lifestyles for the citizens of Fredericksburg. Anyone may support Fredericksburg parks and recreation opportunities by giving through the fund!
What do we do with the money contributed to the Director’s Fund?
Currently, any donations collected by the fund will be used for trail improvements; however there are no specific projects that the Parks, Recreation and Events Department has named for the use of the money within the Director’s Fund.
Previous project- Alum Spring Park Playground
On Saturday, June 29, 2019, a powerful storm came through the City and damaged the playground facility at Alum Springs Park. Although the Parks, Recreation and Events department did replace the basic equipment, an appeal was sent out to the community via the Director’s Fund. Donations that were collected through the fund were used to fund expand play options at the site. Thanks to the community donations the Department were able to install a tall chimes set and a see-saw type piece called a multi-pondo to the playground.
