The City of Fredericksburg will continue to provide enforcement against the use of motorized vehicles on City-owned watershed land. This includes, but is not limited to, ATVs, motorcycles, and 4x4s.
The City owns approximately 4,800 acres of land along the Rappahannock and Rapidan rivers. The land begins at the City limits and runs along both sides of the Rappahannock River to the confluence of the Rapidan and Rappahannock rivers. From this point the City owns land along both sides of the Rapidan and the Rappahannock rivers for approximately another 3 - 4 miles upstream, at which point the City owns various individual parcels of land along both sides of each river for several more miles upstream.
The use of ATVs and other motorized vehicles is strictly prohibited by the City on all of the watershed property.
The Fredericksburg Police Department will be patrolling the watershed property at various times during the year and any violators of the restriction will be subject to enforcement action, which will include fines.
Questions regarding the location of the City's watershed property and restrictions regarding its use should be directed to the Department of Public Works at 540-372-1023.
