The primary function of the Department is to promote the development of the local travel industry by increasing the amount of tourism related business and activities. The goal of the Department is to enhance the economic health of the community through the generation of tourism revenues, a significant portion of which returns directly to the City government.

Tourism and Technology Zones
The City of Fredericksburg established Tourism and Technology zones in order to target specific business for specific areas. Economic incentives are available in order to attract development, and create a more business friendly environment. Listed below are three documents: the ordinance that established the Tourism and Technology zones; the application for business interested in being considered for the incentive program; and the scorecard used by the City in order to gauge the appropriateness of incentives for a particular business.

Households who had responded that they visited Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, and/or Washington, D.C., on a recent trip were mailed a separate, more detailed questionnaire to provide the VTC with even more trip details than the original TravelScope questionnaire.
