Sheriff Paul
W. Higgs is a lifelong resident of the City of Fredericksburg. Sheriff Higgs began
his law enforcement career in 1977 as an Auxiliary Police Officer for
the Fredericksburg Police Department. In 1983, Sheriff Higgs became a
full-time Police Officer with the department until he transferred to
the Fredericksburg Sheriff’s
Office in 1986. In 1994, Sheriff Phillip Robinson promoted Sheriff
Higgs from Deputy Sheriff to Chief Deputy Sheriff. Upon Sheriff
Robinson’s retirement on December
31, 1998, Circuit Court Judge John W. Scott Jr appointed Sheriff
Higgs to a one-year term as Sheriff of the City of Fredericksburg. During a special
election on November 15, 1999, Sheriff Higgs won a two-year term to
fulfill retired Sheriff Robinson’s
remaining term. Since that time, Sheriff Higgs as held the job as
Sheriff of the City of Fredericksburg.
