Holiday Giving
In the Spirit of Holiday Giving – Ideas for how you can help those in the community:

Holiday Help for Children in Foster Care
The Fredericksburg Department of Social Services currently serves approximately 34 children in foster or residential care.  We look to private donors in the community to assist with making sure their Christmas wishes are fulfilled.  We are grateful for your thoughtful consideration and truly appreciate any financial assistance you can provide so that we can help to make the season merry and bright for the foster children whom we serve. Please feel free to contact Michelle Matthews, Family Services Specialist - 540-372-1032 ext 241.

Holiday Help for Needy Families
The Fredericksburg Department of Social Services provides assistance to children from needy families in the area for the holidays through our “Gifts from the Heart” assistance program. We look to private donors in the community to assist with fulfilling their Holiday wish lists. We are currently in need of sponsors to adopt children’s wish lists this holiday season. We also welcome any financial assistance or gift card donations (Wal-mart, Target). If you are interested in adopting a family for the holidays please contact Hayley Badillo at 540-372-1032 ext 249.

Holiday Cheer for a Senior Citizen
Help spread the holiday spirit to a needy senior citizen in the Fredericksburg area!  This year we are collecting gift cards to give to senior citizens in our community who can use the extra help. Gift cards to pharmacies, restaurants, department stores, and grocery stores are all wonderful ideas for our elderly population in need!  If interested in helping with our “Gifts for Seniors” program, please contact, Allison Fitch, Family Services Specialist, 540-372-1032 ext. 259.

Project Manger
This holiday season, the Fredericksburg Department of Social Services (FDSS) is once again launching Project Manger as part of their Safe Sleeping Campaign. Project Manger donates portable cribs to those families who do not have a safe sleeping area for their infants. Over the past year, FDSS has given away 30 portable cribs and educated many parents and caregivers about the importance of providing a safe sleeping environment for infants. Sadly, the need continues to grow, and the funds raised over the past year to purchase these potentially lifesaving portable cribs is quickly dwindling. Your donation would be used specifically to purchase additional portable cribs to help ensure every baby sleeps safely. As a group or as an individual, please support area families in this life saving campaign. If you would like to fund the purchase of a portable crib (average cost $60) please contact Shannon Hartung, Family Services Supervisor, 540-372-1032 ext. 247. Please note that we cannot accept used portable cribs for liability reasons. Thank you!
