Notaries Public
A notary public is a state official who is authorized to witness the signing of important documents, administer oaths, certify copies of certain documents and exercise other powers as provided by law. 

The Clerk of Court administers the Notary Oath and holds the record. The Clerk has no other role in the Notary process. 

NOTARY APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Complete this Application for Appointment as Notary Public and follow the directions that the Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth provides. The Clerk does not provide applications or instructions.
  2. Call the Clerk when you have received notification from the Secretary of the Commonwealth. Phone:(540) 372-1066.
  3. Bring a valid photo i.d.and $10.00 to the Clerk of Court located at 701 Princess Anne St. between 8:30am-4:00pm Monday-Friday for the administration of the Oath of Office.

Payment of filing fees may be made by cash, check, money order, or with a VISA/MASTERCARD, credit/debit card. There will be a $2.00 fee for using a credit/debit card. Make check/money order payable to: Clerk.

IS THERE A NOTARY AVAILABLE AT THE CLERKS OFFICE?
