La Bravia J. Jenkins - Biography

La Bravia J. Jenkins was appointed Commonwealth's Attorney for the City of Fredericksburg on August 29, 2008. A seasoned career prosecutor who has successfully prosecuted numerous murderers and other violent felons, she has practiced law in the Fredericksburg area since 1992. After graduation from the George Mason University School of Law and a clerk/internship with the Honorable William Shore Robertson, she worked as an Assistant Public Defender, serving indigent clients in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania and King George.

In 1995, Mrs. Jenkins attained her goal of becoming a prosecutor when she was hired by then-Commonwealth's Attorney Charles S. Sharp. She worked in Fredericksburg for five years, then accepted the position of Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney in Spotsylvania County.

Mrs. Jenkins returned to the Fredericksburg Commonwealth's Attorney's Office in 2005 and was shortly thereafter appointed Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney by Mr. Sharp. As Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney, Mrs. Jenkins was an active participant in the Juvenile Drug Court Program and supervised prosecution in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. In addition, she has served as chairperson of the board of directors of the Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center, a center for the care and treatment of children who are victims and witnesses of crime. Mrs. Jenkins has been honored for her work with this center as a Woman of Distinction for 2008 by the Girl Scout Commonwealth Council of Virginia.

Running as an independent, Mrs. Jenkins was elected Commonwealth’s Attorney in a special election held on December 16, 2008.
