Outdoor Facility Chart of park features
Dorothy Hart Community Center 
Our Community Center is the home of our department and the majority of our programs. Located at 408 Canal Street. Parking is located in the back of the building. Parks and Recreation administrative office are located within the Community Center.
Alum Spring Park

Discover this hidden treasure within our city limits! This wooded park is located at the end of Greenbrier Drive extended. It is equipped with a renovated picnic shelter, picnic tables, restrooms, grills, play equipment, walking paths, and a fitness trail. Alum is now open 9 am - 8pm on weekdays 10am - 8pm weekend. We’ve renovated the picnic shelter and replaced the playground equipment that had been damaged by Hurricane Isabelle. This wooded park is a great place for children to play; even during the warmest days of summer the shade trees keep it cool. Stop by and see for yourself; we think you’ll agree, the place looks great!

Canal Path

This paved pathway is 1.8 miles long and winds along the canal from Fall Hill Ave. to Princess Anne St.
City Dock
This historic dock dates back to George Washington's day. Public fishing is permitted. Located near the end of Sophia Street, just past the railroad tracks.
Dixon Park


The City's newest outdoor facility is 46 acres and features athletic fields, outdoor swimming pool, playground equipment, 1.5 miles of trails, restrooms, and nature preserve areas. Future expansion plans include a new Community Center. The Jogging/ Walking Trail is a paved pathway that begins at the kiosk, and is marked to help you track your distance. Dixon Park is located at 1300 Dixon Street, which is on Rt. 2 & 17 across from Mayfield subdivision.

Dixon Aquatic Facility (Dixon Park Pool)
Fredericksburg Dog Park
Located on Kenmore Avenue near Mary Ball Street. This is a special fenced-in area available to City residents and their pets only. This dog park is self-monitored by its users and is designed for dogs 4 months and older. The park is open from dawn to dusk.
The off-leash area is surrounded by a six foot fence. Water is provided for pets only. Directions: From Kenmore Avenue - Just past Mary Ball Street (past the tennis courts) on your right hand side, you will see the parking lot and fenced-in dog park. From Mary Ball Street - Turn right at the intersection with Kenmore. The parking area is the next right turn.
City residents who wish to use this facility need to have their dog tags, which are available at City Hall (City Ordinance Code 14-213).

A historic downtown park with a fountain, brick sidewalks and benches. Local farmers sell produce on Saturdays and some weekday mornings. The park is located at William and Prince Edward Streets. Hurkamp Park Use Policy
Thanks to a very generous donation from the Rappahannock Rotary, a beautiful brick wall including brick benches has been added along Prince Edward Street. The wall is complete, but you can still make a “naming” donation ($2500) to the Rotary Club and have one of the brick benches named after you or a loved one. The Parks and Recreation Department will be adding lamp posts. The department is currently accepting “naming” donations ($1500) for the lamp posts. Maury Playground
Located at William St. and Kenmore Ave., Maury Playground has an open play area and playground equipment. Maury Park Use Policy
Memorial Recreation Park
Memorial Recreation Park (also known as Kenmore) is located on the corner of Kenmore Ave. and Mary Ball St. The park is equipped with 2 unlighted tennis courts and 6 tennis courts that are lighted from dusk - 10 pm throughout the year, as well as a tennis practice wall, basketball court, youth soccer field, children´s play equipment, and a toddler play area. Motts Run Reservoir Recreation Area
This 860-acre natural area including the 160-acre reservoir, is a haven for fishing, boating canoeing, hiking and picnicking. It also serves the residents of Fredericksburg and parts of Spotsylvania County with drinking water. You may bring your own boat (ELECTRIC MOTORS ONLY) to launch on the lake, or fish from the banks. Fee charged for fishing and boat launching. No swimming, horseback riding, biking of any kind, or all-terrain vehicles permitted. The park has jon boats and canoes available for rental, picnic grills and tables, and over 4 miles of hiking trails. Motts Run Nature Center
Manned by volunteers, this beautiful one-room log cabin features hands-on nature displays, our resident snake "Pocket" and information that the whole family will enjoy. Looking for a fun family day? Visit our Nature Center and then head off on one of the hiking trails or grab a picnic table for your family lunch. The Nature Center is free to the public during regular open hours:
April through October: Open Saturdays and Sundays from noon - 5 pm

November through March: Closed for winter but is still used for Parks & Recreation Nature programs (register for these at Parks & Recreation office).

Old Mill Park
Located on Caroline Street. This park features soccer fields, picnic shelters, restrooms and river front views. Old Mill Park Use Policy
Old Walker-Grant School
Located at 200 Gunnery Road, the facility has open playing fields, a lighted basketball court, and a children´s play area.
Snowden Park PlaygroundLocated on Fall Hill Avenue, this park has playground equipment and basketball courts. The playground structure is designed for 5 – 12 yr. olds. and includes an independent swing set and a small slike for the little tykes. The court is a two bank basketball court. Plus, there is plenty of open space for other outdoor activities. The park has ample amount of trash receptacles for personal trash.
Snowden Baseball Fields
Located on Fall Hill Avenue. There are two baseball diamonds as well as generous parking for sports enthusiasts who are attending practices and tournament games. There is also an open field area for recreational activities such as field hockey, Frisbee toss and more.
W.L. Harris Playground
Located in the community of Mayfield, this park has a covered shelter, playground equipment, and a lighted basketball court.
