Recreation Commission

Commission: 

Code of Virginia Sec. 15.2-1806 et seq.
City Council Code, Section 10-371 through 10-380 as amended
   

Purpose: 

The recreation commission shall plan for and supervise the parks and recreation facilities.  The parks and recreation facilities shall conduct programs on playgrounds, athletic fields, recreation centers, and parks designated by the Council for such purposes.  The commission shall be charged with the duty of planning and developing the areas and facilities designated for such programs, but no area shall be designated, developed, or abandoned for recreational purposes until the plans for such have been submitted to the city planning commission and have been approved by the Council.

Membership: 

Nine members, city residency required.  One member shall be a member of the Council, one member shall be a senior citizen, and one member shall be a school system representative.  The council member representative shall serve at the pleasure of the Council and the remaining 8 members shall serve a four-year term, expiring on June 30th.

Meetings: 

Meetings are 3rd Thursday of each month, 7:00 p.m., at Maury Commons, located at 900 Barton Street, Suite 111, Fredericksburg, VA  22401.  No meeting is scheduled for November as the Volunteer Banquet is held then.
