In January 2005, the Fredericksburg Industrial Development Authority pursued an official name change to become the Fredericksburg Economic Development Authority. With this official name change, a new direction began for the Economic Development Authority. The Board of Directors authorized a committee called JumpStart! Fredericksburg 2010 to lead a professional design and implementation process to:
Identify development opportunities/needs
Render development examples for each City commercial area with recognized needs (‡scroll down to the Jumpstart! Drawings and Plans below)
Provide market analysis to demonstrate individual project viability
Foster strong public support
Improve quality of life amenities and enhance economic development opportunities
The Authority hired the consulting firms of Basile, Baumann, Prost & Associates (an economic development advisory firm based in Annapolis, Maryland) and Rhodeside-Harwell, Inc., (an urban design and architectural firm based in Alexandria, Virginia). They will:
Perform a market analysis to determine need and demand for improvement options
Create community-endorsed renderings to visualize desired redevelopment
Craft detailed action plans to assign accountability for project completion
