FEMA: Emergency Food and Shelter Program

 

This program provides assistance with rent/mortgage and utilities (electric, gas, water/sewer), based on eligibility qualifications. The Fredericksburg Department of Social Services will administer this program as funding becomes available. Applicants must have experienced a recent, drastic change in circumstances, such as loss of job, death, unemployment benefits exhausted & etc. Applicants that have received utility assistance this year are not eligible for utility assistance through this program. Applicants may apply only once a year for assistance, for each component (rent/mortgage & utilities).

 

Applications are located online at the Forms Center or you can stop by the front desk of the Social Services Department.
 
Required documentation:

  • Photo ID
  • Income verification of all adults within the home (such as pay stubs)
  • Current utility bill
  • Evictions notice/letter from the landlord/mortgage company
  • Other documentation may be required on a case by case basis
