If you are interested in becoming more active in the government of your City, you might consider a position on a board or commission. Citizens are appointed by the Fredericksburg City Council to serve a limited number of two- to five-year terms. For specific board and commission information regarding purposes, duties, and appointment opportunities, contact the Clerk of Council. The City of Fredericksburg does not discriminate on the basis of disability in the admission or access to its programs, services, or activities. (EOE)

Fredericksburg residents interested in serving on any of the City's Boards and Commissions are welcome and encouraged at any time to complete an application and return it to the Clerk of Council for consideration by the City Council, as openings become available.

Definitions

What's an authority?  An administrative unit of government charged with overseeing a particular activity

What's a commission? A government agency having administrative, legislative, or judicial powers

What's a board? A committee having supervisory powers

What's a task force? A semipermanent unit created to carry out a continuing task or a particular issue
