Utilities Accounts
City of Fredericksburg residents in single-family and duplex households receive drinking water, sewer, and refuse/recycling collection services from the City. Refuse and recycling are optional services except in high density areas (townhomes) where refuse is required.
Setting up New Accounts
Please call the Utility Billing Office at (540)372-1182, Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to inquire on setting up a new utilities account. The Utility Billing Office processes water, sewer, refuse collection, and recycling for the properties with Zip Codes of 22401 only. A deposit is required for all accounts; deposit amounts depend on meter sizes. Equifax credit reporting service can determine if a deposit can be waived. ALL commercial accounts must pay a deposit.
Click on application to begin the utilities process. The completed form can be mailed to the address listed on the application, faxed to (540)372-1215, scanned and emailed to utilitybilling@fredericksburgva.gov, or processed at the Utility Billing Office, 715 Princess Anne Street.
Closing Existing Accounts
To close your utilities and request a final bill, please submit a written notice requesting the account closure. You should call (540) 372-1182 at least one business day prior to the day you wish to discontinue services to confirm that your request has been received and appropriately scheduled. Please have your forwarding address available when you call.
Water/Sewer/Refuse/Recycling Rates and Billing Schedule
- Water is billed on the basis of 100 gallons of consumption and the current water rate per 100 gallons consumed is $.208.
- Sewer is billed on the basis of 100 gallons of water consumed and the current sewer rate is $.423
- The current refuse rate is $31.50 bimonthly for regular refuse service and $25.20 bimonthly for high-density refuse service.
What You Need to Know About Water Meters
- Water meters must be free of obstructions such as cars, landscaping, leaves, or other objects at all times.
- Only City employees are authorized to open meter lids.
Refuse and Recycling Collection Days
Refuse is collected two days a week year round, with the exception of certain holidays. Curb-side recycling is also available to residents and is collected one day a week. Refuse and recycling collection days are determined based on the neighborhood in which you live. Refuse collection guidelines.
Refuse and Recycling Drop-Off Sites
The City operates a drop-off refuse and recycling center in the Fredericksburg Battlefield Industrial Park. The location, hours and directions of the recycling are available on this site or you may call the Utility Billing Office.
Bill Payment Methods
Utility services are billed every two months. Residents are encouraged to make use of online utility and tax payment options.
