Homeownership and Home Repair

 

USDA Rural Development Housing and Community Facilities Programs

USDA provides a number of homeownership opportunities to rural Americans, as well as programs for home renovation and repair.  HCFP also makes financing available to elderly, disabled, or low-income rural residents of multi-unit housing buildings to ensure they are able to make rent payments.

 

Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) 

VHDA has developed an array of Homeownership Loan Programs designed to remove the barriers of buying a home and to meet the changing needs of today’s low- and moderate-income consumer.

 

Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development

The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is committed toward creating safe, affordable, and prosperous communities in which to live, work, and do business in Virginia.   

 

Central Virginia Housing Coalition (CVHC)
CVHC offers emergency home repairs through Home Essential Repair Outreach (HERO).  In addition to this program, the agency offers educational and financial services and assists families in finding decent affordable housing.  This organization also administers the Housing Choice Voucher Program. 

 

Rebuilding Together 

Rebuilding Together is a volunteer organization that provides free home repairs to eligible low- and moderate-income families in the Fredericksburg Area.

 

Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity constructs low cost housing to provide housing for eligible families throughout Planning District 16, to meet the goal of eliminating poverty housing and homelessness in the area.  

 

Rappahannock Agency on Aging (RAAA) Emergency Assistance, Repair and Weatherization Programs

RAAA has programs to provide one time grants to avoid utility shut-offs and other emergency payments.  The organization can perform small emergency repairs for eligible homeowners and provide improvements to increase the energy efficiency of homes in Planning District 16. 

 

 

Services

 

Fredericksburg Regional Continuum of Care (CoC)

The CoC is a regional group of agencies and interested parties from Planning District 16 organized to develop, promote, and support a continuum of human services and housing opportunities that reduce and prevent homelessness in the community. 

 

211 Virginia

2-1-1 VIRGINIA provides a wide variety of free health and human service referrals in Fredericksburg and throughout the Virginia. 

 

Rappahannock United Way

Rappahannock United Way funds health and human services that meet critical community needs and coordinates services throughout the area. 

 

Fredericksburg Department of Social Services (DSS)

DSS provides a range of social services and support including food stamps, temporary assistance to needy families, employment services,  child care referrals, child and adult protective services, and fraud services.   

 

Rappahannock Area Community Services Board (RACSB)

RACSB provides mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse support and prevention services.
